The Nevada Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Agency (SAPTA)finds and workswith 12 community-based coalitions, using the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) Five Step Planning model, to develop local strategies and plans to address substance abuse prevention. These 12 coalitions are responsible for the planning, coordination and oversight of 58 prevention programs and strategies statewide. SAPTA's strategy also includes using the coalitions to increase provider capacity through a planning process, which includes grant writing and other resource development activities.
In state fiscal year 2007, SAPTA also funded 30 direct service prevention providers who are implementing programs aimed at reducing and preventing substance use. Subgrantees are funded to provide one or more of the six prevention strategies that are promoted by CSAP. The six strategies include: information dissemination, prevention education, alternative activities, problem identification and referral, community based processes, and environmental strategies.
